With the cooperation of Caterpillar Japan LLC, a participating organization of the UTokyoGSC Consortium, we conducted an online tour of their UK factory where construction equipment is manufactured, and held discussions with employees of their Japanese subsidiary
The presentation about the UK factory was entirely in English, and the participants asked questions in fluent English. They also seemed impressed by the presence of female engineers
In the latter half of the discussion, we learned about Caterpillar's sustainability initiatives. The discussion covered not only environmental and resource aspects such as carbon neutrality and the recycling and reuse of construction equipment, but also the sustainability of human resources and social contribution.
This site visit provided a valuable opportunity for the participants to recognize the connection between science and technology and society within a company.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude once again to everyone at Caterpillar Corporation for their cooperation from the preparations to the operation of the event on the day.
*Caterpillar Japan LLC is a participating company of the UTokyoGSC Consortium.
